When you’ve been roofing for as long as we have, you get to see some pretty awful work done by other so-called roofing professionals. It’s a black eye on our industry and far too prevalent for our taste. It’s an unfortunate consequence of what many have thought of as a LBE, or low-barrier-entry, profession. In fact, nothing could be further from the truth. Roofing is difficult, demanding work and, if you want quality results, you’re going to have to pay for it. That’s not to say that roofing should be expensive, but, if you’re honest with yourself as a customer, you know when a price is too good to be true.
In Chicago, there are far too many “trunk-slammers” – people with no licensing who offer roof work. While you may think it’s a great price they’re offering, it’s important to take a moment and think about why they can price their services so low. Is it because they have no licensing? Is it that they have no insurance? Or, do they hire the cheapest possible labor on top of having no legitimacy in the industry? Unfortunately, in many cases, it’s all of the above. When a customer hires one of these people, our entire industry takes a hit. After all, their work is clumped in with our own and adds to the perception of Chicago roofing companies. And, that’s a real shame.
At Chicago Roofing Quotes, and many others in and around Chicago, we take our role in this city, and society in general, very seriously. We have the proper licensing – not just because it’s the law – but because that money goes into the city’s coffers to pay for things we as citizens need. Those other operations skate on their responsibilities to the community – we don’t. That means that every time a customer hires one of these people, they’re taking money directly from the city they live in. So, in actuality, those savings were actually ill-gotten gains. No one wants to claim that, do they?
The final separation between reputable companies and those who offer roofing with no right to do so is insurance coverage. Just think about that for a moment. You’d hire people to work on the most dangerous part of your structure, where a million little things can go wrong, without any insurance coverage to speak of? What happens if they fall? Or, just as bad, what happens if they hurt someone else with falling debris? Without insurance policies in place to indemnify you, the customer, you could be facing far, far more than a roofing issue. So, play it safe, do your part as a citizen, and only work with companies willing to pay the price to play the game like Chicago Roofing Quotes (312) 522-5045!
